... A radical change is currently taking place in Kenya, says the political scientist. The participation of young people in political life has so far been low. ‘In Kenya, wisdom is associated with old age. Those who are young and not married usually have little say in society’. In the past, young people were paid by politicians and political parties to campaign for them or to demonstrate against their opponents on the streets. Few of them would have looked at political decisions or draft laws in detail. Now this generation uses social media to inform themselves and mobilise others, often in local languages, for better understanding. ‘It's an incredible development’. ...
